Micolichek Wins H.O. Sargent Award
The H.O. Sargent Award is given to an FFA member who has promoted diversity
among their FFA chapter and community. The state winner advances to
national competition.
STATE WINNER: Jeremiah Micolichek, West De Pere FFA
Jeremiah has photo-receptor disorder with a central vision loss and
field deterioration which makes him legally blind. However, Jeremiah
has not let this stop him and he has persevered over his limitations
as an active member of the West DePere FFA Chapter. Jeremiah has demonstrated
his determination to get people to understand that he is able to do
many activities including speaking contests, participating in the state
and national chorus, showing cattle and goats and planning activities
to get students involved including students of the special education
program. Jeremiah has been an inspiration and a role model in the FFA
chapter says his FFA advisor Mrs. Clara Hedrich. He has shown other
students by example how to handle diversity and overcome a disability.
He currently is a teacher assistant for the first grade and plans to
become an elementary teacher.
