Carpenter Named State FFA Star in Agricultural Placement
STATE WINNER: Cody Carpenter, Darlington
Cody is very involved in the care and management of his family's 750-acre
farm, Redrock View Farms, which milks 700 head of dairy cattle. His
skills have increased from basic cow care, to being in charge of the
birthing and reproduction of the entire herd. Carpenter helps in selecting
bulls from AI studs that emphasize strong feed and leg characteristics
and milking ability. Good genetics help the herd and provide Cody with
quality show animals that he trains and grooms for exhibition at county
and state fairs.
Meanwhile, Cody
has also been helping his dad with a custom field work enterprise. Last
year, they worked over 2,500 acres for four area farmers.
Cody plans to attend
the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall. He envisions himself
becoming the herd manager for the family farm someday.
