Dylan Stichert Named State FFA Star Farmer

STATE WINNER: Dylan Stichert, Marshfield

Dylan's family operates a 120-cow herd of Registered Black Angus and Belgian draft horses which are used in operating a six-horse hitch. Dylan personally owns 24 head of Angus and crossbred cows, along with 17 horses, and raises a herd of Angus calves and Belgian foals to be sold for income. He often breaks the calves to lead in order to sell them as club calves; and sells foals as weanlings or keeps them to be broke to drive before selling them.

Dylan has found a niche market for his equine enterprise by offering wagon and sleigh rides. And he's been successful at local and state fairs and at livestock and horse shows. Stichert has put in hours of practice to master the skill of handing a six-horse hitch and his market steers have won top awards including Grand Champion and Carcass Champion.

His amazing skills at training young horses to drive and ride and mastering the patience of shoeing the huge draft horses has led Dylan to host many demonstrations, seminars and educational events.

Stichert also works in the family business of skidding out, harvesting and selling pulpwood to paper mills. He recently purchased 20 acres of land that has a barn and small storage shed. This investment will allow him to continue with his livestock enterprises as he obtains a degree in Forestry.
