Doherty Named State FFA Star in Agricultural Placement
STATE WINNER: Dustin Doherty,
Randolph-Cambria-Friesland
Dustin works for Doober Farms, owned by his parents, which is a corn,
soybean and wheat operation. Starting young, Doherty developed a love
of farming and is always excited when he is included in management decisions.
Dustin does most of the tillage and some planting work on the farm.
He is also skilled at drawing soil samples and interpreting the results.
Doober Farms has a dryer
and 80,000 bushel storage capacity that allows them to market crops
more efficiently by taking advantage of market upswings.
Doherty also works at Paradise Farms, cropping over 1,000 acres of spearmint
and peppermint. His favorite job is operating the combine during the
fall harvest.
He plans to return home to the family farm and eventually become a full-time
partner.
