Kessenich Named State FFA Star Farmer
STATE WINNER: Wade
Kessenich, DeForest
When he was just a young boy, Wade's parents gave him his first Jersey
calf. Up until then, the family only worked with Holsteins. As time
went on, Kessenich become involved in embryo transfer technology. This
allowed him to produce multiple births for one breeding and quickly
build up calf numbers to offer heifers to dairymen--resulting in additional
income to reinvest in outstanding genetics.
Wade has been in charge of the silo bunkers for the past several years.
If the job is not done right, it will effect the herd's production for
an entire year. The family's herd has reached the top ten percentile
in the state of Wisconsin.
Through an excellent
breeding program, shrewd purchasing, and outstanding record keeping,
Wade has turned an interest in dairy production into a great career.
