| Rick Henningfeld
Named Agriscience Teacher Award Winner
The Agriscience Teacher Award recognizes agricultural instructors who have excelled with their classroom curriculum and activities in an attempt to provide students with the most up-to-date and beneficial knowledge for a future career in agricultural science areas. Wisconsin’s Agriscience Teacher of the Year is eligible to compete for national recognition at the National FFA Convention. The winner also receives a $150 check for their efforts. STATE WINNER: Rick Henningfeld, Big Foot FFA Chapter Through Henningfeld's agriscience curriculum, students are able to make science connections linking to their physical and life sciences, chemistry and biotechnology concepts while meeting Wisconsin science and agriscience standards. Rick's mission in the classroom is to teach material to the students that they can relate to in their everyday lives. Students are taught to think for themselves and come to their own conclusions. He is constantly looking for new, modern curriculum to teach his students. Less than two-percent of his students have a production agriculture background, so he teaches agricultural concepts that all students relate to and have an interest in. Mr. Henningfeld's passion for teaching has promoted the growth of the agriscience program, and his students will continue to develop a strong interest for agriculture under his teaching. Rick will compete for the
same honor at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis later this fall.
