More Farmers Converted to Organic in 2018

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has reported the number of certified organic operations in the U.S. reached 27,494 in 2018, up by 1,093 over the 2017 count.

The agency said the number of international operations certified was up 713 to just over 15,500.

Combined, those totals account for about 43,000 certified operations, a 4.4% increase compared with 2017.

The database indicated a global total of more than 1,800 certified organic apple operations, though a single company could have multiple listings of its various certified organic orchards. The number of global suppliers certified for organic leaf lettuce topped 2,500 in 2018, according to the database.
