Midwest Governors Tell EPA They Support E15 Regulation Reform
USAgNet - 09/19/2016

Seven Midwest governors came together to urge the Obama administration to remove a hurdle that prevents the sale of motor fuel with 15% ethanol during the summer. The governors, in a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, said that gasoline with a 10% ethanol blend gets a regulatory waiver that allows it to be sold from June 1 to Sept. 15.

The governors would like a similar waiver for fuel containing 15% ethanol, hoping that would prompt more stations to carry the higher blend and create a bigger market for the fuel made from corn, reports Penton Agriculture.

Now, slightly more than 300 of the 150,000 gas stations across the country carry E15. That number is growing as a result of the USDA Biofuels Infrastructure Partnership, but it would grow faster, the governors say, if E15 can be sold in the summer.

The governors signing the letter come from corn-producing states: Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Minnesota and Missouri.
