Drought Monitor: Rain Bypasses Southwest Yet Again
USAgNet - 02/26/2021

During a week that started with below- to much-below-normal temperatures, Pacific storms battered the Northwest then tracked southeastward across the Northern and Central Rockies, but missed most of the Southwest yet again.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Drought Monitor report, plentiful moisture fell on Washington, Oregon, northern California, Idaho, and western Montana for the week ending Feb. 23.

Storms also dropped widespread precipitation on much of the Southeast, mid-Atlantic, and coastal New England while most of the Midwest saw light frozen (snow, sleet, freezing rain) precipitation.

Dry weather was observed across much of the Plains except in south-central Texas.

Temperatures throughout the middle third of the nation dropped 30 to 40 degrees F below normal before moderating by week's end.
