Governor Proclaims September as State Soybean Month
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/27/2014

Since the production of soybeans make a significant contribution to Wisconsin's economy and its agricultural sector, Governor Scott Walker has issued a proclamation declaring September as Soybean Month. The certificate of observance signed by the governor this week states that animal agriculture is the top consumer of soybean meal, including livestock, fish and poultry.

"In 2012, animal agriculture accounted for 111,000 jobs in Wisconsin--an economic output of $1.6 billion, and $2.9 billion worth of household income," Walker stated in his proclamation. "Wisconsin's animal agriculture had a $765 million impact on income taxes paid and a $307 million impact on property taxes paid that year."

And he adds that soybeans are also an important part of Wisconsin's overall economy, with one in every 10 workers employed in agriculture.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated that Wisconsin farmers will harvest another record amount of soybeans this year.
