USDA Tweaks State Corn, Soybean Production Forecast
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/13/2021

Even after making a few adjustments from the previous month, USDA officials are still expecting a lower harvest for Wisconsin corn farmers. The National Ag Statistics Service's monthly Crop Production report says corn production is forecast at 506 million bushels this fall. As of October 1, experts predict that yields will average about 172 bushels per acre, unchanged from the September 1 forecast, but down one bushel per acre from last year. Corn planted acreage is estimated at 3.95 million acres, of which 2.94 million acres will be harvested for grain.

Soybean production is forecast at 112 million bushels. The yield should be around 54 bushels per acre, up five bushels from the September numbers, and two percent higher than last year. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 2.10 million acres with 2.07 million acres to be harvested.

The next corn and soybean production estimates will be published on November 9.
