Clark Co. Leads WI in Milk Output, Outagamie for Herd Average

Clark County continues to shine as one of the leading dairy counties of the state and nation. The Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service has issued new milk production figures for each individual county of the state for 2015. The agency notes that Clark County farms produced 1.47 billion pounds of milk last year, and also led the state in the total number of milk cows at 69,000 head.

Fond du Lac County ranked second in total production at 1.45 billion pounds, followed by Dane County at 1.44 billion. Marathon County trailed Clark for total number of cows at 61,000.

Meanwhile, the most productive milk producing county in the state last year was Outagamie County, where each cow averaged 26,900 pounds of milk. Brown County's dairy herd averaged 26,800 pounds and Manitowoc followed at 26,600 pounds per animal.

The state as a whole had 1.28 million dairy cattle at the end of 2015, with an average production of 22,697 pounds of milk per cow. Total milk production for the year in the Dairy State was tabulated at just over 29 billion pounds.
