FSA Announces ECP Sign-Up for June Flood Damage to Farmland
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/28/2008
The Wisconsin Farm Service Agency has announced an official sign-up period for the Emergency Conservation Program for producers that suffered flood damage to farmland during the month of June. State FSA Director Ben Brancel says September 2 is the first day to sign-up for the ECP, which is made available for 19 counties affected by the June storms.
"The funding will provide producers funding for cost-sharing of repairs to farmland damaged by the flooding this spring," Brancel said.
The 19 counties that have been approved and allocated funding are Calumet, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Grant, Green Lake, Jefferson, Kenosha, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Monroe, Racine,
Richland, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Vernon and Winnebago. Producers who have already filed an application for the program in their local FSA office do not need to contact the office again. Their
applications will be processed with others received during the signup period.
However, Brancel says producers who have identified damage to farmland from the heavy rain and floods, but have not applied for assistance must file an application at their local FSA office by November
20. An application must be filed, and an onsite inspection completed by an FSA employee, prior to any work being started.
The ECP funding is available to producers for cost-sharing of removal of farmland debris, grading, shaping, or re-leveling of severely damaged farmland, restoring permanent fences and repairing conservation
structures. To be eligible for the program, producers must have suffered at least $1,000 worth of damage and the damage so costly to repair, that without Federal assistance, the land would not be returned
to productive agriculture.
For more information, contact your local county FSA office.
