Wisconsin Pork Producers to Attend Legislative Conference

Pork producers from Wisconsin will be traveling to Washington, D.C. next week to attend the 2010 National Pork Producers Council Legislative Action Conference.

The event is held twice a year for producers to communicate one-on-one with elected officials on issues affecting the industry.

Some of the issues on the agenda include antibiotic use, mandatory price reporting, funding for swine research, free trade agreements with Korea/Columbia/Panama, and the Mexican trucking issue.

Attending from Wisconsin will be: Tom Knauer, Avalon; Bill Gnatzig, Roberts; Mike Beisbier, Reedsburg; Doug Wolf, Lancaster; and Mike Wehler, Plain. In addition to the conference, the US Pork Center of Excellence will hold its’ annual Deans Policy Council Meeting, and Molly Jahn, UW-Madison's Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will be in attendance. Jahn will also make visits with Wisconsin's producers to the Hill.
