'Hilda' Named 2015 Cow of the Year
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/14/2015

Officials at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture have announced the 2015 Cow of the Year. 'Siemers Dundee Hilda,' a Holstein Gold Medal Dam bred and developed by Siemers Holsteins of Newton, has been selected as this year's recipient for her excellent pedigree, production record and outstanding showing performance.

Classified at EX-95, Hilda's highest record to date at 4-10 on 2x milking in 365 days produced 56,780 pounds of milk with 3.1% 1746 pounds of fat and 3.2% 1749 pounds of protein. Her lifetime totals to date with 1,998 days on test include over 254,000 pounds of milk with over 8,700 pounds fat and 8,000 pounds protein.

The 10 year old cow has had a prolific show career for the Siemers. In 2013 and 2014, she was the overall NASCO Type and Production Award Winner at World Dairy Expo's International Holstein Show. Hilda is also a two-time Junior All-American production cow and was named Grand Champion of the International Junior Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo in 2011.

Hilda will be recognized at a proclamation ceremony early next month during World Dairy Expo in Madison.

The Holstein breed was selected to receive the Cow of the Year award according to a succession plan among the major dairy breeds, as determined by the Wisconsin Purebred Dairy Cattle Association.
