'Anna' Named 2018 Cow of the Year
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/19/2018

Officials at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture have announced the 2018 Cow of the Year. 'Hilrose Advent Anna-Red,' an eight-year-old Red & White Holstein bred and owned by Hilrose Holsteins of Sherwood, has been selected as this year's recipient for her excellent pedigree, production record and outstanding performance in the show ring.

Classified at Excellent-94, Anna has a long list of honors in the Red & White breed, including Reserve All-American 125,000 lb. Cow in 2017, Reserve All-American Aged Cow in 2016, and nominated All-American five-year-old in 2015.

Hilrose Holsteins is owned by Joe and Chris Brantmeier, and their sons Andy and Jeff. Over the past sixty years, the operation has bred and developed 212 Excellent and 621 Very Good cows.

"Our underlying goal has been to breed and develop profitable cattle, with a strong emphasis on high type and cows with a tremendous will to milk," said Jeff Brantmeier.

Anna will be recognized at a proclamation ceremony early next month during World Dairy Expo in Madison.

The Red & White Holstein breed was selected to receive the Cow of the Year award according to a succession plan among the major dairy breeds, as determined by the Wisconsin Purebred Dairy Cattle Association.
