Town Hall Meeting to Focus on Importance of NAFTA
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/18/2017

A town hall meeting is being planned for Tuesday in Kaukauna to gather stakeholders' input on the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement. The event, organized by the Wisconsin Fair Trade Coalition and its member organizations, will be at the Plumbers and Steamfitters from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The meeting will provide an update on the progress to renegotiate NAFTA and determine what the impact is for workers, farmers, the environment and U.S. citizens.

"For too long, U.S. trade negotiators have prioritized free trade over fair trade, leading to a massive trade deficit, lost jobs and lowered wages in rural communities," said Wisconsin Farmers Union President Darin Von Ruden. "These free trade agreements have not resulted in a stable positive balance of trade for U.S. agriculture."

The Town Hall will feature short presentations on the negotiations with Canada and Mexico from representatives of manufacturing, environmental organizations and family farmers.
