World Beef Expo to Award $7,500 in Cash & Prizes to Youth
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/11/2007

The popular Youth Sweepstakes contest is back at World Beef Expo again this year and features two new contests. The all new Photo Journalism and Sales Talk events will replace the livestock judging and quiz portions of the expo and offer another opportunity for youth to highlight their creativity.

Youth may participate in the Livestock Judging Contest on Saturday, however this year it will not be counted as a Sweepstakes event. Participants can win cash awards and other prizes for each individual event, as well as the overall winners in each age category.

For Photo Journalism, youth will present five photos and a story of 50-250 words, dependent on age category. The photos must be related to the agriculture industry and must be taken within the current year. Scoring will be based on photo quality, photo story and overall presentation.

The Sales Talk contest will focus on marketing an animal to a panel of potential 'buyers.' Youth will identify key selling points for their animal and will be judged on their knowledge of the animal they are selling and their overall selling skills.

The two new contests, along with Practical Herdsmanship, Public Speaking, Heifer Show, Steer Show, and the Showmanship contest round out the sweepstakes events. Youth must participate in four of the seven contests to be eligible for the overall sweepstakes prizes, though individual event awards will be given.

Contests will take place throughout the weekend and will culminate with award presentations on Sunday following the Junior Show. For complete contest rules and schedule, visit www.worldbeefexpo.com and click on youth sweepstakes.

The 2007 World Beef Expo will be held September 28-30 at the Wisconsin State Fair Park.
