Wisconsin Ag Teachers to be Honored at National Event

Five agriculture teachers from Wisconsin will be honored during the National Association of Agricultural Educators convention later this fall. The event will be held November 18-22 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Southern Door High School Ag Instructor Jeanna James will be recognized as the Outstanding Young Member of the Year for Region III. The award goes to members who have completed at least three but not more than five years of teaching.

Larry Plapp, who teaches at Badger High School, is earning the Outstanding Agricultural Education Teacher Award. This program recognizes members who are at the pinnacle of their profession. The award recognizes leadership in civic, community, agriculture/agribusiness and professional activities.

Rachel Sauvola of New Richmond High School will be the recipient of the National Agriscience Teacher of the Year award. That honor recognizes teachers who have inspired and enlightened their students through engaging and interactive lessons in the science of agriculture.

A Teacher Mentor award will be presented to Crystal Retzlaff of Oconto Falls. The award program provides incentives for experienced teachers to become mentors for beginning teachers.

And Tri-County High School Teacher Amie Stillman will earn a Teachers Turn the Key Award. This honor encourages young teachers to remain in the profession and to encourage and recognize participation in professional activities.

The NAAE is an organization is dedicated to developing professional pride and a spirit of unity among classroom teachers in agriculture education, and to recognizing members for conducting outstanding programs.
