Two Deadly Accidents During Farm Safety Week
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/24/2018

Wisconsin recorded two fatalities in separate incidents during National Farm Safety & Health Week.

On Thursday, a 60-year-old Pittsville farmer died after he fell while climbing the ladder inside of his silo. Wood County authorities say Pete Peterson was in the silo's chute when he fell from an unknown height.

Reports say he was talking with paramedics when they arrived, but died a short time later at an area hospital. The cause of the accident has not been determined.

Peterson was known in the community for being an advocate for farm safety and even helped plan safety training events on his farm.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man from rural Elk Mound was killed Friday morning while inflating a tire on a silage wagon. Dunn County Sheriff Dennis Smith says Seth Splitter was working on the tire when it depressurized, causing it to blow apart and striking him.

That incident happened on a farm in the town of Spring Brook.
