UW-Platteville Expands Agricultural Cannabis Degree Program
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/13/2020

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Continuing Education Institute is expanding its cannabis-related certificates to include an Agriculture and Horticulture Certificate program.

As part of the new changes, students will learn how to care for cannabis plants, study cannabis botany and genetics, and explore plant growth techniques during the innovative six-month certificate program. The certificate is offered in partnership with Green Flower, a national leader in cannabis education.

"The Cannabis Agriculture and Horticulture Certificate ensures graduates of the program will be perfectly positioned to take advantage of a growing industry in need of qualified, skilled employees," said Continuing Education Institute Director Kerie Wedige. "Advocacy is not the goal of our cannabis certificate programs. Instead, we're focused on education. We believe these programs perfectly align with our mission of offering valuable, unique, and timely opportunities to the community."

UW-Platteville is the only state university to offer this type of opportunity. Courses are instructor-led in an online format, based on the students' schedule.

Wedige says the certificate programs are uniquely designed to quickly provide an on-ramp and prepare professionals to fill the companies' growing skills gap needs in the legalized cannabis industry.
