Comments Sought on Richfield Dairy's Environmental Impact Statement
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/17/2014

The public will have an opportunity to review and comment on a draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Richfield Dairy project in Adams County, being built by Milk Source Holdings, Inc.

The Department of Natural Resources said on Tuesday that since the farm's wastewater and high capacity well permits have been approved by an administrative law judge earlier this month, the draft EIS addresses concerns raised in a December 2013 court decision regarding the environmental effects of two proposed high capacity wells, in conjunction with other high capacity wells in the region.

The company plans to convert 115 acres of existing cropland to farm buildings and production areas. Richfield Dairy has an approved nutrient management plan with a total of approximately 16,300 acres available for spreading of manure. The project cost is estimated at $35 million.

The DNR says there will be a 45-day comment period on the draft EIS as well as a public hearing on October 7 in Adams.

Milk Source, which is based in Kaukauna, is also developing the New Chester Dairy and another farm in Michigan.
