Field Day Focuses on Organic Veggie Production
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/22/2014

A field day is being held today to focus on evaluating the flavor of organic vegetables. The event takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. at the the University of Wisconsin-Madison's West Madison Agricultural Research Station.

Field day visitors will get a chance to help UW plant breeders evaluate the flavor of organic beets, carrots, tomatoes and peppers. The vegetables in these trials were selected with an emphasis on flavor.

The event, which is one of three being held this fall, is part of an effort to help provide farmers opportunities for higher value crops and to encourage chefs to incorporate fresh local produce into their menus.

The West Madison Agricultural Research Station is located at 8502 Mineral Point Road, about a half mile west of the Beltline.
