Wisconsin Teams Fare Well at National Dairy Judging Contest

The University of Wisconsin-Madison placed first overall during the 22nd Annual Accelerated Genetics Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest. The competion was held earlier this week in Viroqua, in which the Madison squad finished on top for both reasons and overall evaluation.

Team members included Kristen Broege, Abigail Martin, Megan Lauber and Sara Griswold. They were coached by Chad Wethal and Brian Kelroy.

The UW-River Falls dairy judging team placed second.

Meanwhile, the top three individuals in oral reasons took home a special scholarship from the James Crowley Fund. They were Broege, Martin and Meghan Connelly of UW-RF.

A total of 12 teams participated in this year's contest representing the states of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. They judged the following dairy breeds Guernsey, Holstein, Jersey and Milking Shorthorn with each participant placing 10 classes and giving five sets of oral reasons.
