DNR to Develop Analysis on Industrial Sand Mining

The Department of Natural Resources will seek public input and update a 2012 report as part of a broader agency strategic analysis on industrial sand mining. That's what DNR staff reported to the state natural resources board on Wednesday.
The announcement was in response to a petition brought before the board by citizens and Midwest Environmental Advocates. They are requesting the department "conduct a strategic analysis" under NR 150.
According to state code, the department will now have to seek public input on what topics should be addressed in the report. The analysis process also includes a public comment period and review of a draft report before the final document is presented to the board.
Input on the scope of the analysis will begin in February and March. A timeline for completion of the report will be established after the scoping process is complete.
