Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/28/2015

Junior and senior students at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville who are pursuing degrees in agriculture now have a new housing option. The Cooper Living and Learning Center at the school's Pioneer Farm has finished its on-site residence hall, which is located about seven miles from the main campus.

The facility upgrades have been coordinated by the School of Agriculture in collaboration with staff from the Department of Residence Life for the purpose of preparing students for professional careers in agriculture.

The center features 11 double rooms with every two rooms sharing one bathroom. Accommodations also include a full kitchen, two common areas, and free washer and dryer.

"We want students to have the opportunity to further deepen relationships with their peers while preparing for life beyond college," said Dr. Jodi McDermott, assistant dean of the College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture. "Activities are designed to help students develop bonds with each other. In addition, there is programming which helps students with their professional development."

Activities at the center include resume clinics, guest speakers from industry, one-on-one events with faculty and more.

There are currently nine students residing in the Cooper Center.
