PDPW to Hold Dairy Calf & Heifer Tours in October
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/22/2009

The Professional Dairy Producers Association is holding a pair of day-long tours that will feature state-of-the-art dairy calf and heifer facilities around the state.

The first tour will be held October 20 in northeastern Wisconsin. A bus will leave the Fleet Farm parking lot (3035 W. Wisconsin Ave.) in Appleton at 8:00 a.m. and will make stops at Wiese Brothers Farm near Greenleaf, a 2,300-cow dairy operation with a unique calf/employee-friendly set-up; Abel Farms in Eden, site of a new 1,200-head heifer facility; and 3-D Dairy near Malone, which will demonstrate its computerized calf feeders.

On October 21, a second tour bus will leave the Sleep Inn & Suites Hotel in Chippewa Falls at 8:00 a.m. for a northwestern Wisconsin tour. That trip includes stops at Marshland Acres, a biosecure heifer raising operation near Durand; Prissel Valley Farms of Durand, a 450-cow dairy raising 100 wet calves; Bussee's Barron Acres near Barron, a 2,800-head calf raising operation; and Sugar-Bol Farm in Chetek, which uses a bedding recycler system to save money and generate healthy results.

Each tour costs $75.00 for PDPW members and $100.00 for non-members. Extra participants can attend for an additional $50.00
