Flood Impacted Farmers Can Apply for Disaster Assistance
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/29/2016

The leader of the Wisconsin Farm Service Agency says federal farm programs may be available for producers who suffered damage from the recent heavy rains and flooding. FSA Director Patty Edelburg announced that the USDA offers disaster assistance and low-interest loan programs to assist farmers in their recovery efforts following floods or similar qualifying natural disasters.

"These significant rain and flood events in Wisconsin have left extensive damage in their wake," said Edelburg. "As such, many farmers and ranchers are experiencing crop loss and forage loss, displaced and deceased livestock and property damage."

Available programs and loans include the Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, Livestock Indemnity Program, Tree Assistance Program, and Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program.

To establish or retain FSA program eligibility, farmers must report prevented planting and failed acres. Prevented planting acreage must be reported on form FSA-576, Notice of Loss, no later than 15 calendar days after the final planting date as established by FSA and Risk Management Agency.
