More Corn, Less Beans & Oats in Storage Compared to Last Year

Wisconsin corn stocks in all positions as of September 1 totaled 55.9 million bushels, according to the USDA's latest grain stocks report. This is 27 percent above the same quarter last year.

Of the total stocks, 47 percent were stored in on-farm storage facilities. The indicated quarterly disappearance from June to August totaled 88.5 million bushels, four percent less than the 92.3 million bushels used during the same quarter last year.

Wisconsin soybeans stored in all positions last month totaled 2.5 million bushels, 48 percent less than the 4.84 million bushels on hand last fall. This is the lowest September stocks since 1997. Of the total stocks, 30 percent were stored on-farm. Indicated disappearance for the June to August quarter was 5.23 million bushels, 42 percent less than the 9.09 million bushels used during the same quarter last year.

And oat stocks in the Badger State totaled 6.45 million bushels, down 22 percent from the 8.22 million bushels on hand September 1, 2013. This is the lowest September stocks since estimates began in 1949. Of the total stocks, 49 percent were stored in on-farm storage facilities. Indicated disappearance for the June to August quarter was 4.55 million bushels, 118 percent more than the 2.09 million bushels used during the same quarter last year.
