WFBF's VFA Backs Schimel for Re-Election as Attorney General
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/15/2018

The political action arm of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation has announced its endorsement for the upcoming Wisconsin Attorney General election on November 6. The Volunteers for Agriculture Committee is supporting GOP incumbent Brad Schimel for re-election.

"Schimel's adherence to the rule of law is the predominant reason why the Volunteers for Agriculture is supporting his re-election," said Doug Rebout, chair of the VFA committee. "His understanding and reasoning as to why bureaucrats are not in charge of writing laws, but rather the legislature, is welcomed throughout the agricultural community. His legal opinions and actions provide the clarity and certainty that farmers need in challenging times."

Rebout adds that the Farm Bureau was also pleased with Schimel's willingness to listen and resolve the issue over the legality of hemp-derived cannabidiol.

A former Waukesha County district attorney, Schimel was elected as the state's top cop in 2014. He's facing Democrat Josh Kaul, a former law clerk and federal prosecutor who is the son of former attorney general Peg Lautenschlager.

The committee is made up of 18 farmers from across the state. The purpose of the Volunteers for Agriculture panel is to give farmers a more direct role in electing leaders who best represent agriculture's interests.
