State Fair Performance Contest Winners Announced

Jessica Gaska of Dodge County exhibited the overall champion in this year's Wisconsin State Fair Performance Beef Contest. The Performance Beef Division is a comprehensive contest incorporating rate of gain, live show and carcass evaluation. The overall top winners as well as the top two exhibitors in the individual components of the contest, receive prize monies and awards.

Gaska's entry was a Simmental steer which was first in rate of gain, 16th in the carcass show, 2nd in the live show and finished with an overall score of 85 points. Jessica received a banner and $300 from Wisconsin State Fair. The Overall Reserve Champion Performance Steer was a Balancer owned by Lydia Russell, Dane County, which placed 3rd in rate of gain, 10th in the carcass show and 1st in the live show, resulting in an overall score of 82 points. Lydia received a banner and $250.

Elizabeth Rake from Dane County exhibited the Overall Champion Performance Barrow. That division is a comprehensive contest incorporating both lean gain and show placings. Rake's pig was a crossbred which placed 1st in class in the live show and 3rd in lean gain for an overall score of 97.39. The Overall Reserve Champion was also a crossbred exhibited by Mikailah Lindberg, Trempealeau County. This barrow was 2nd in class in the live show and Reserve Champion in the lean gain contest with a total score of 96.84.

And Rosemary Herschleb, Columbia County. exhibited the winning overall champion entry in the lamb division. The Performance Lamb Division is a comprehensive competition incorporating rate of gain, live show and carcass evaluation. Hershleb's crossbred which was 2nd in rate of gain, 18th in the carcass show and 4th in the live show for an overall score of 90.02. Rosemary received a banner and $300 from Wisconsin State Fair. Cole Tideman, Fond du Lac County, exhibited the Overall Reserve Champion with a Natural Color entry which was 3rd in rate of gain, 27th in the carcass show and 5th in the live show for an overall score of 87.90. Cole received a banner and $250.
