Workshop to Discuss Composting, Emergencies on the Farm
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/09/2012

Farmers who may be considering composting as an alternative method for managing your manure are being invited to a workshop later this month to learn about how the process is done.

The 'Piles of Poop and Preventing Problems' program is being organized to help producers determine if this is the right manure and nutrient management tool for their farm.

Workshop topics include the science of composting, specific composting techniques, rules and regulations for manure storage and composting, and how to manage emergencies on the farm or stable.

The program will be held at Sunflower Farms in Bristol on October 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. A tour of Sunflower Farms, including their composting operation will immediately follow the program.

The costs for the workshop is $20 for adults and $10 for youth 18 and under.

For more information or to register for the event, call the Walworth County UW-Extension office at 262-741-4951.
