Farms, Students Invited to Take Part in PDPW Mentor Program
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/13/2017

The Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin is looking to match host farms with students for its popular Mentor Program. Operations are being sought to help provide the next generation of producers with a diversity of duties involved in the day-to-day operations of the dairies.

The purpose of the program is to provide a platform and resource for collegiate-level students interested in the dairy industry to partner with an active producer in order to participate in an educational, hand-on, on-farm professional experience. Participants can be four-year university, technical school and Short Course students who are looking for the opportunity to experience modern dairy production and learn firsthand from progressive dairy farmers.

"The dairy industry is changing rapidly, and it is critical that dairy farmers adopt new technologies and management practices to be sustainable and productive," said PDPW Director Shelly Mayer. "The PDPW Mentor Program provides students the chance to explore career opportunities, see firsthand how modern dairy farms are operating, and build connections with dairy farmers and industry professionals."

A student's experience through the Mentor Program can be just one day of shadowing a dairy farmer and asking questions, or longer if a student wishes to spend more time learning from his or her farm mentor.

To be considered in the PDPW Mentor Program, students must submit their application online by the November 10.
