Walker Gets Re-Election Backing From WFBF, DBA & WCGA
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/19/2018

Three Wisconsin farm groups that supported Scott Walker's 2010 and 2014 gubernatorial campaigns, as well as his recall challenge race in 2012, are backing him one last time. The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Dairy Business Association and Wisconsin Corn Growers Association have each endorsed the governor's re-election effort on Thursday.

The Farm Bureau's Volunteers for Agriculture Committee, which is made up of 18 farmers appointed by the WFBF's board, says Walker is consistently engaged with the agricultural community.

"He recognizes the intense challenges our farmers face," said WFBF President Jim Holte. "In this time of low commodity prices, he placed key stakeholders on the Governor's Dairy Task Force 2.0 and tasked them to come up with viable solutions to help dairy farmers."

The group also praised the governor for appointing farmer Cris Peterson to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, Sheila Harsdorf as agriculture secretary and Keith Ripp as assistant deputy secretary at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture.

"Under Governor Walker's leadership, Wisconsin agriculture has accomplished many things," Holte added. "Our VFA Committee, led by farmers, endorsed Governor Walker because he respects rural communities and will help the agricultural industry grow."

Meanwhile, DBA board member Tom Crave says Walker has been and continues to be committed to moving Wisconsin's dairy community forward.

"He continues to present bold initiatives to make sure Wisconsin will always be America's Dairyland," Crave said "Walker understands that dairy farmers need a government that supports their needs to be successful."

The ag groups also released a long list of accomplishments they felt were a direct result of the Walker Administration's leadership, ranging from high capacity well legislation to the Implements of Husbandry bills. Legalization of industrial hemp, creation of a producer-led watershed grant program and major reforms of aquaculture regulations were also included.

Walker is facing State School Superintendent Tony Evers on November 6. He promised it would be his last run for governor.
