Equity Livestock Awards Scholarship Money to Students

The Baraboo-based Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association has announced the names of this year's college scholarship recipients. The co-op is offering ten $1,000 scholarships for students attending a college or university, and two $750 technical education scholarships.

The scholarships are funded by Equity and distributed through Cooperative Network's Federated Youth Foundation. To be eligible, students or their parents are patron members of Equity Livestock. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters at a post secondary college, university or technical school, as well as maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Winning $1,000 scholarship recipients include:

** Sydney Endres, Lodi, studying dairy science and life sciences communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

** Roger Becker, Pardeeville, studying chemical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

** Melissa LeCaptain, Mishicot, studying education at the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc.

** Ashley Bergsbaken, Bonduel, studying agricultural marketing communications at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls

** Bryan Wieichelt, Stratford, receiving his doctorate in biomedical and healtth informatica at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

** Ann Denk, Mondovi, studying animal science at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

** McKenna Gruber, Mondovi, studying agribusiness at North Dakota State University.

** Katherine Larson, Viroqua, studying agribusiness at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

** Emily Hefty, Mount Horeb, studying soil and crop science at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

** Dakota Lins, Avoca, studying agribusiness at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

** Leah Elsbernd, Calmar, Iowa, studying dairy science with a pre-vet option at Iowa State University.

Winning $1,000 technical college scholarships include:

** Kelley Koester, Elizabeth, Illinois, studying agribusiness at Blackhawk Technical College East.

** Brandi Zawislan, Unity, Wisconsin, studying nursing at Northcentral Wisconsin Technical College.

Applicants were judged on their scholastic achievement, extra curricular activities, leadership abilities, academic and personal goals, and an essay summarizing educational goals and future career plans.
