The state's agriculture department has announced its latest dairy herd count numbers, which indicates that there were 11,155 herds milking during the first week of January. That's a drop of 169 since October 1.
Last year at this time, there were about 11,750 herds licensed by the DATCP.
Clark County continues to hold the highest number of herds in the state with 924.
Meanwhile, Forest and Milwaukee Counties, which still ranks last in the state with four herds each, both increased from previous figures.
DATCP records show that 87 percent of state dairy operations are Grade A certified, with 13 percent licensed as Grade B.
