Rural Schools Grant Program Seeking Applicants for 2015 Funding
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/30/2015
Monsanto is once again sponsoring its Farmers Grow Rural Education program, which will award public school districts with grant monies of either $10,000 or $25,000. The company says school districts are working to incorporate common core state standards and hands-on learning opportunities into their math
and science curriculum. The grant program aims to strengthen education in rural communities.
"Grow Rural Education is our way to partner with farmers across rural America to provide top-quality education to students in their local communities," said Michelle Insco, Monsanto Fund program officer. "Helping students acquire proficiency in math and science will assist in creating the next generation of
problem solvers."
Now in its fourth year, the Farmers Grow Rural Education program will invest over $2.3 million in local schools for the 2015-16 school year. Farmers have the opportunity to nominate their local districts through April 1. Administrators from nominated districts will then submit grant applications for either amount.
The program is part of a broad commitment by the Monsanto Fund to partner with farmers to support rural communities. So far, it has helped more than 500 school districts improve math and science education across 39 states.
