Year-to-Year Egg Production Continues to Climb in Wisconsin

Wisconsin egg production during September was 160 million eggs, up 10 percent from the same period a year ago, but four percent lower than in August (which had an additional day on the calendar).
According to the latest USDA Chickens and Eggs report, the average number of all layers on hand during September was 6.68 million. That was up three percent from 2017, but down slightly from last month. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,390, up seven percent
from a year earlier, but down four percent from the previous month.
Nationally, U.S. egg production totaled 8.91 billion in September, up four percent from last year. Production included 7.76 billion table eggs, and 1.15 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.07 billion were broiler-type and 85.5 million were egg-type. The average
number of layers during the month totaled 386 million, up three percent from 2017.
