Ag Groups Blast Anti-Walker Ad on Farming Issues
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/20/2014

Three statewide farm organizations are crying foul over a television ad that states Governor Scott Walker doesn't support family farms. The Dairy Business Association, Wisconsin Corn Growers Association and Wisconsin Farm Bureau's 'Volunteers for Agriculture' pac say the ad fails to show the progress Walker's administration had shown during the governor's first term in office.

"Wisconsin farmers know Governor Walker has been a strong advocate of the agriculture industry," said DBA Policy Director Laurie Fischer. "Walker and his administration have a proven track record of support for our industry and the entire farming community."

VFA Chair Annette Trescher adds that Walker has publicly expressed support for use value assessment of farmland, state livestock siting standards and the right to farm law.

"He also has overseen great gains in agricultural exports, which grows our state's economy," she said.

And WCGA President Brian Long said in addition to farm policy, the administration helped put the state back in a strong fiscal position and was able to reduce income taxes paid by farmers.

"Walker signed into law a major overhaul of the Agricultural Chemical Cleanup Program, reducing the fees paid by farmers and increasing the state commitment to fertilizer research," Long noted.

A press release issued by the organizations last week further touted Walker's record on agriculture, including implementation of the Dairy 30X20 program, Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit in 2011, Agricultural Enterprise Areas, and the Implements of Husbandry law.

All three group's have endorsed the governor for re-election for the upcoming general election on November 4.
