Free Webinar Series: Guiding Farmers to Legal Resilience
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/08/2019

Farm law training is being offered as a four-part webinar series by Farm Commons starting in one week.

When farmers have law-related questions, they turn to the advisors they trust, like Extension agents, nonprofit staff, accountants, and lenders.

In a Farm Commons survey of 86 respondents conducted in fall 2018, 94% of agricultural service providers responded that farm business law questions come up in their interactions with farmer clients. In the same survey, agricultural service providers responded that while they want to be able to guide farm clients towards answers, they can’t because they don’t know what the client should do; are afraid of giving the wrong advice; and are worried about overstepping their bounds.

Farm Commons has developed a solution in its four-part free online webinar series that will cover six core legal subject areas: business structures, land purchasing and leasing, insurance and liability, employment law, and agritourism and adding value. Throughout, the series will highlight core “action steps” or legal best management practices that advisors should recommend to help farmers reduce risk.

People are invited to join for one or all four webinars to 1) understand the most important things you need to know about farm employment law, land matters, business structures, liability and insurance, sales, agritourism and adding value, and 2) guide farmers to take at least one of our 12 basic steps to build legal resiliency. Participants will learn exactly how to stay within their abilities as a non-attorney while guiding farmer clients to legal strength and resiliency.
