Wisconsin Hemp Legislation Advances to the Governor
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/14/2019

The Wisconsin State Assembly passed the Growing Opportunities Act on Wednesday, which updates state law to reflect new federal regulations on hemp production. The measure also creates more certainty for hemp producers, processors and consumers in the Badger State, while boosting funding for the state's agriculture department to test industrial hemp crops.

State and federal regulations allow farmers to grow hemp as long as the crop contains less than 0.3 percent of THC--a drug most often found in marijuana.

"The bill incorporates changes made in the federal farm bill as well as feedback from farmers and processors who had ideas of how the program could run more smoothly," Testin said.

Governor Evers had earlier indicated that he would support the measure if it reaches his desk.
