Ballweg to Chair Wisconsin Senate Ag Committee
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/10/2020

Senate Majority Leader-elect Devin LeMahieu has announced his GOP picks for various committee leadership positions for the next legislative session, which includes Senator-elect Joan Ballweg as chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture & Tourism. The Markesan Republican has served in the Assembly for many years and was just elected to the 14th Senate District in November to replace Sen. Luther Olsen.

Ballweg has a track record for partnering with farmers to protect water, promote land stewardship and advocates for Wisconsin's rural communities. She has also been a supporter of improving roads, bridges and rural broadband access.

"I'm happy to be called upon to chair the Committee on Agriculture & Tourism," said Ballweg. "We also have strong advocates for and experts on tourism and agriculture within our borders whom I'm eager to work with on these issues."

Ballweg will assume responsibilities of the committee's leadership in early January. She replaces Sen. Howard Marklein from Spring Green, who will now serve as vice chair of the panel.

Other Republican members of the Senate Ag Committee will include Patrick Testin, Stevens Point; Jerry Petrowski, Marathon; and Kathy Bernier, Lake Hallie. Democrat members of the group are expected to be announced soon.

Meanwhile, LeMahieu also chose Rob Cowles of Green Bay to chair the committee on Natural Resources & Energy; and Rob Stafsholt, New Richmond, as the leader of the Committee on Sporting Heritage, Small Business & Rural Issues.
