Lawmakers Vote to Maintain County Fair Coordinator Position
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/30/2009

It appears that state legislators like the impact that local fairs have on their communities. On Thursday, the Assembly unanimously approved a bill that would require the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture to maintain the current position of fair coordinator throughout the state.

The measure was introduced by Assembly Ag Committee Chairperson Amy Sue Vruwink. She says county fairs are vital to rural areas, youth and traditions of Wisconsin.

"This is a very straightforward bill that will not cost taxpayers any money," Vruwink said after the vote was taken. "Its main purpose is to make sure that the Department of Agriculture designate an employee within this state agency to serve as a county fair coordinator. We all realize how important are these fairs are to our agricultural community, and that's why I introduced this legislation."

Vruwink says she's hopeful that the State Senate will take action on the bill within the next few weeks.
