CWD-Positive Deer Confirmed in Portage County
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/16/2018

Another white-tailed deer from Wisconsin has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease. The state's agriculture department says the latest case was reported in Portage County, where a three-year-old buck harvested on a 220-acre hunting ranch contracted the fatal brain disease.

State animal health officials say the ranch purchased the animal from another Portage County breeding farm. DATCP has since quarantined both of those operations, which means no animals are allowed to move in or out of the properties until further notice.

Registration records show the 11-acre breeding farm has 42 whitetail deer, is double-fenced and is enrolled in the CWD Herd Status Program.

This isn't the first time CWD was found in Portage County. Two separate white-tailed deer tested positive for the disease in a hunting preserve back in 2008.
