'Alice' Cuts First Christmas Tree of the Season
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/19/2018

Wisconsin's 71st Alice in Dairyland helped kick-off the holiday season last week during a visit to Green County. Kaitlyn Riley cut down the state's first official Christmas tree of the year during a ceremony near Brooklyn on Thursday. The event took place at Lancaster's Winterberry Tree Farms.

The family-owned choose and cut operation welcomed local fourth and fifth grade students from the New Glarus and Albany school districts, where FFA students and the Green County Conservation League helped coordinated education stations.

The area will also be the site of next year's Alice in Dairyland finals, which is being held in Green County in May 2019.

This marks the 19th year the annual first cutting was held by the reigning Alice in Dairyland.

Meanwhile, the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association announced it will help sponsor the annual 'Trees for Troops' program again this year, in which 600 Christmas trees will be collected from Wisconsin growers to be delivered to a number of military bases around the country and given to troops and their families.
