Record Crop Yields Still Expected in Wisconsin

The latest crop production forecast indicates that Wisconsin is still on target to break some big crop production records this year. On Thursday, the USDA said farmers in the Badger State will benefit from above average rainfall in October, followed by just the right drying conditions.

The Wisconsin corn forecast remains unchanged from the previous two months, with production expected to total 423 million bushels, 1.5 percent below last year due to 100,000 fewer acres harvested. Average expected yield remains at a record high 151 bushels per acre. Soybeans in the state are expected to average 44 bushels per acre, up one bushel from October's forecast, and equal to last year's yield. If realized, the state's production would be a record 71.3 million bushels, surpassing last year's record by 1.8 million bushels. Though the average yield is expected to be the same. There were 40,000 more acres expected to be harvested this year.

Wisconsin's fall potato crop is expected to yield an average 435 hundredweight per acre, which is 25 cwt. above last year. If realized, this would tie the record yield set in 2004. Total production in the state is forecast at 28.7 million cwt., three percent above last year. Sixty-six thousand acres are expected to be harvested.
