Plans for SWAG Ag Innovation Center Delayed
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/18/2015

A proposed Agricultural Education & Innovation Center being developed by the Southern Wisconsin Agricultural Group will need to be placed on hold due to a lack of financial support. The SWAG board of directors announced it will instead focus on offering agricultural classes to students and adults in an effort to spread agricultural awareness to the public.

The multi-million dollar project was originally going to be built in Evansville, with an agricultural education center, expo and training center, agricultural events facilities and an ag discovery center included in its plans. The group then revised their scope in early 2015 by announcing a collaboration with the Village of Marshall because of its proximity to Madison.

SWAG President Mike Larson said this week that donors have been telling the board that the project will need to start at a smaller scale until the agricultural economy picks up.

The innovation center was expected to break ground next year.
