Joe Bragger Chosen to Lead WFBF, Rural Mutual as President
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/10/2019

A Buffalo County dairy producer has been selected by his peers to lead the state's largest farm organization. Joe Bragger of Independence was elected president of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation during the conclusion of the group's annual meeting in Wisconsin Dells on Monday. He will also serve as head of Rural Mutual Insurance Company.

A WFBF board member since 2011, Joe and his family have farmed in western Wisconsin since the 1960s. Bragger Family Dairy now milks 300 dairy cows and grows 1,400 acres of crops. They also raise 32,000 pullets.

Joe was recognized eight years ago as the first-ever recipient of Wisconsin's Leopold Conservation Award. Their farm was also a participant in the University of Wisconsin Discovery Farms Program. And in 2002, the family was chosen as the state's Conservation Farmers of the Year by the Department of Natural Resources' Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association.

In addition to the Farm Bureau, Bragger is a former president of the Wisconsin Soybean Association. He succeeds Jim Holte of Elk Mound, who has served as WFBF president since 2012.

Meanwhile, delegates also elected new board members Brian Preder, Weyauwega, District 7; Ryan Klussendorf, Medford, District 8; Peter Kimball, and River Falls, District 9. Each will serve three-year terms.

Darby Sampson of Melrose will serve a one-year term as the board's representative from the Promotion and Education Committee; and Kelly Oudenhoven, De Pere, will represent the Young Farmer and Agriculturist Committee.

Other board members who were not up for re-election this year are Dave Daniels, Union Grove; Arch Morton Jr., Janesville; Robert Nigh, Viroqua; Kevin Krentz, Berlin; and Rosie Lisowe, Chilton.
