ACE Forum to Focus on How Farms Affect Local Waters
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/03/2010
Local elected officials and the general public have an opportunity to hear from dairy producers involved in on-farm research affecting waters in their communities later this month in Stevens Point. The
Agriculture Community Engagement educational seminar is being held February 25, where attendees will learn about the latest research from University of Wisconsin Discovery Farm Program, as well as dairy
producers who participated in the multi-year studies.
"These educational seminars are a valuable opportunity to have an open dialogue on dairy issues that impact, or are impacted by, local governments," said Rick Stadelman, Wisconsin Towns Association
Executive Director.
In addition to water quality and environmental issues, the event will also include information and discussion on road issues. Participants will learn about research that is being done in the Midwest to help our
communities manage the changing needs of agriculture and the challenges with road use and repair.
Dennis Frame, co-director of the Discovery Farm Program and professor in the Department of Soil and Science, University of Wisconsin-Extension, will facilitate the event. He has spent his career in
agriculture and environmental research, and education.
Wisconsin dairy producers and panelists for the event include Joe Bragger, Karl Klessig and Alan Koepke--each of whom were among the first to have participated in this Discovery Farm Program.
This one-day event has been developed for every local elected official, dairy producer and persons who recognize the importance of being involved in issues that impact their communities and livelihoods.
The cost to attend is $40 and includes lunch and seminar materials. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. The meeting begins at 9:15 a.m., with wrap-up at 3:30 p.m.
