Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/18/2011

Wisconsin's two representatives on the National Milk Producers Federation board of directors now both hold officer positions. During the group's annual meeting in San Diego this week, Pete Kappelman from Two Rivers was elected treasurer--which is a newly created position. He represents Land O' Lakes on the NMPF's board.

Kappelman is one of the owners of Meadow Brook Dairy Farms, LLC of Manitowoc. He currently serves as chairman of the Land O'Lakes board of directors; and is also on the Wisconsin Alumni Association board, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Dairy Promotion and Research board, and is a past president of the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin. His awards include honorary recognition from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at UW-Madison, Wisconsin Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer and Wisconsin Dairy Farm Family of the Year.

Meanwhile, Dave Fuhrmann from Baraboo, who represents Foremost Farms USA, was re-elected as board secretary. Dave has been the president of Foremost Farms since 2001 and serves as an advisor to the International Dairy Foods Association.

Also at the meeting, an extra sharp cheddar cheese made by Foremost Farms was awarded the Grand Champion Cheese award at the 2011 NMPF cheese competition. The cheese, which was manufactured in Marshfield, received a score of 99.8 from the judges. The Foremost Farms Cheddar was selected from among 149 entries to this year's NMPF cheese contest.
